Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has not yet given up on signing striker Alexandre Lacazette – despite a claim from the Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas to the contrary.

Aulas confirmed earlier this week he had rejected a £29.3m bid for the striker from the Gunners.

The offer was less than the £40m West Ham indicated they were prepared to pay – but the 25-year-old marksman has insisted he’d only join a club in the Champions League, whereas the Hammers are in the Europa League.

No news is good news for United?

Manchester United’s pursuit of Paul Pogba looks set to drag on for a few more days with no deal officially yet in place with Juventus.

It has the potential to be a world-record transfer with the Serie A side wanting in the region of £100million for the 23-year-old.

Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola decided to involve himself in the public debate – insisting the waiting game continues.

“No deal done between clubs. It’s a game between Italy press and UK press who announce it first and who is worse,” he tweeted.

We’ll bring you the latest throughout the day, here.

Ranieri not worried by Kante exit

Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri believes his side will be able to cope with the departure of N’Golo Kante.

The energetic midfielder was signed by Chelsea earlier this month, but the Foxes boss says he is used to replacing key men.

“I think the same as it was last season with [Esteban] Cambiasso,” said Ranieri. “It was difficult to replace but we replaced. It is the same, football keeps going, doesn’t stop.

“Football can lose me, Wes [Morgan, Leicester captain], everybody, but the other people will continue to play football.

Galatasaray after Man City and Liverpool duo

Galatasaray have confirmed they want to sign Manchester City defender Jason Denayer and Liverpool midfielder Lucas.

Belgian international centre back Denayer spent last season with the Turkish side playing 28 Super Lig and Champions League games during a successful season long loan after spending the previous campaign on a long-term loan at Celtic.

City boss Pep Guardiola is so far keeping hold of Denayer but if John Stones arrives at City as expected in a record £50million deal the Belgian star could be loaned out.

Galatasaray coach Jan Olde Riekering, in Sweden where they face Manchester United on Saturday, said:”At the moment Jason is back with Manchester City and I think he’s very happy with his new coach.”

Everton set to land Villa midfielder

Aston Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo is resigned to losing Idrissa Gana to Everton in a £7.1 million deal this weekend.

Di Matteo said: “It’s public knowledge that Everton have triggered the clause in his contract, so he is going to leave.

“There’s not much you can do because he has a release clause – that’s something I inherited so my hands are tied. We’ll be losing him.

“Once personal terms are agreed and he passes the medical, he is going to go and there’s nothing I can do about it.”

Pogba’s agent takes to Twitter

Another (sort of) development in the Paul Pogba saga ext.

The Frenchman’s agent Mino Raiola has taken to Twitter to (a) slag off journalists and (b) tell us that no deal has been done between the two clubs.

“Journalist = parrots,” he starts. Been called worse, to be fair.

“No deal done between Clubs,” he continues. “Its a game between Italy press and UK press who announce it first and who is worse.”

And so the waiting game continues.

Guzan in at Boro

American goalkeeper Brad Guzan has completed his move from Aston Villa to Middlesbrough on a free transfer.

The United States international has agreed a two-year contract with the Teessiders.

Guzan made 34 appearances for relegated Villa last season and played every match in the USA’s run to the Copa America semi-final.

The 31-year-old is likely to be back-up at Boro to former Barcelona and Spain goalkeeper Victor Valdes, who joined the newly-promoted Premier League club earlier this month.

Brad Guzan signs for Middlesbrough.

Wolves land Costa

And so the Mendes era begins at Molineux.

Wolves have this afternoon confirmed the signing of Benfica winger Helder Costa on a season-long loan, to become to first signing following the Fosun Group’s takeover.

Costa spent last season on loan at Monaco, where he scored three times in 25 appearances.

And not only that, but the Championship side have said that they are close to finalising a deal for Atletico Madrid defender Silvio, subject to the player formalising his departure from the Spanish side.

Barnes backs Klopp over Sakho

John Barnes believes Jurgen Klopp’s hardline stance in relation to Mamadou Sakho has helped swing the balance of power back towards managers.

The France defender was sent home from the club’s pre-season tour of the United States earlier this week because of his poor time-keeping.

Barnes believes that immediately sent a message to the rest of the squad.

“Managers needs to be given that autonomy,” said the ex-England international, speaking at the Silverstone Classic in support of Prostate Cancer UK.

“The manager needs to be given that strength to then say if ‘I take a decision to drop somebody or to send them home or tell someone off then you will have to back me’ – and the fans do.

“There are certain managers, (Jose) Mourinho, (Antonio) Conte, (Pep) Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, they can take decisions and the fans will back them.

“That’s not happened in the past. Players have been too powerful at the clubs in the past where things have gone wrong and you blame the manager.”

Ibrahimovic set for Manchester United debut

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been included in Manchester United ‘s squad for the clash with Galatasaray in Gothenburg tomorrow.

United face the Turkish side in the Ullevi Stadium with Ibrahimovic now in line to make his debut.

Joining him are captain Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Schneiderlin who could all be in line for first appearances following extended post-Euro 2016 breaks.

David De Gea is likely to start in goal while new boys Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will get more minutes in their legs too.

Chilwell delighted to pen new Leicester deal

Liverpool missed out on Leicester left back Ben Chilwell when the youngster penned a new five-year deal with the Premier League champions last night.

And the 19-year-old couldn’t be happier to have committed himself to the club.

“Obviously I’m buzzing – it’s a great thing to sign a new long-term contract with Leicester City. I’ve been here a long time, since I was 12 years-old, so to be committed to the Club for another five years is definitely a massive thing and I’m looking forward to it.

“I’m happy with my decision and I can’t wait to get started in the season. Hopefully I’ll play a lot more games this season and make myself a team member.”

Dyche admits to transfer struggles

Sean Dyche admits the soaring costs in this summer’s transfer window are making it difficult to secure his targets.

Financial limitations are making recruitment difficult with Burnley’s summer spending just £3.6m so far with only Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Nick Pope coming in.

“We know who the players are, it’s doing the deals, that’s for the chairman to get on and do,” Dyche told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“The market is challenging, I’m a broken record but it’s the truth, it’s not just us, when you see the numbers flying around it is a big challenge.

“There’s certain clubs spending a lot of money, which is probably surprising in another way when people see the amounts on certain players.

“Then there are others who are sitting tight and keeping their cards close to their chest.

“We’re in the middle somewhere, trying to get deals done which we think are appropriate.”

Klopp happy with Liverpool’s summer transfer business

Jurgen Klopp is confident his summer transfer business will be a success.

The German has brought in seven players at a cost of about £70million and Klopp feels not only has he added further quality with goalkeepers Loris Karius and Alex Manninger, defenders Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan, midfielders Marko Grujic and Georginio Wijnaldum and forward Sadio Mane, but has also brought in the right characters.

“We know more about them than they can imagine,” he said.

“We had a long trip with scouting so when you go and talk to the player you have already scanned him.

“The most important thing is how they can play football: talent, skill, potential but then character is very important.

“Could we gather all the information on the character side? No.

“I met all of them before we made the transfer and then it is about feeling the person behind the player.

“We tried to do our best and at this moment we feel quite confident it has worked.”

Cech backs Wenger’s transfer policy

Petr Cech has backed Arsene Wenger’s policy of targeting quality over quantity.

The Arsenal keeper was speaking with £30million midfielder Granit Xhaka already signed and Wenger hunting £40m-rated Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Cech said: “I think you need to be buying players you need. You need to buy players that will improve the team and not just for buying[’s sake].

“That’s the philosophy of the club. I’ve been here since last season and you can see that every time we bring in a player, it’s a player we need and the manager believes he improves the team.

“There is a core of the players who have been at Arsenal for years, and they know that is an advantage as well. People get to know each other, how to play together.

“[Xhaka] had been brilliant with Basel, he had been brilliant with Gladbach, so we bought a complete player who definitely improves our squad, and hopefully he will prove that on the pitch.”

Another done deal, you lucky things.

This time we jet over to Turkey where Besiktas have confirmed the signing of Adriano from Barcelona.

United set for more pre-season pitch woe

Jose Mourinho and Manchester United have been plunged into another pitch shambles less than 24 hours before their flight to Sweden.

United are due to face Turkish side Galatasaray on Saturday evening in the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg as part of their pre-season preparations.

But Mourinho will be furious to discover the playing surface at the 58-year-old arena is in a shocking condition after a Bruce Springsteen concert on the pitch six days ago.

United were forced to cancel their proposed Manchester derby meeting with City in Beijing earlier this week ,with both Mourinho and Etihad boss Pep Guardiola condemning the poor state of the pitch at the Birds Nest Stadium.

Inter turn down big money approach for Icardi

Inter Milan have turned down a £45.5million approach for Arsenal target Mauro Icardi, according to the Daily Star.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with the Inter captain but they face competition for his signature – and Inter do not want to sell.

Chief Erick Thohir confirmed interest in Icardi, including from Serie A rivals Napoli, last week.

“We’re not going to sell Icardi. We’ve received offers – from Napoli too – but we’re not going to sell him,” he told Inter Channel.

“We extended his contract a year ago. We’re like a family and we can always talk if there are problems or discuss what we’d like to achieve together in future.”

Paul Pogba is on the brink of becoming a Manchester United player again as his £100million world record move from Juventus nears completion.

The midfielder is currently in Los Angeles, enjoying the latest leg of his summer break in the United States following his Euro 2016 exertions.

He was pictured shopping for new shoes in exclusive designer store Mr Chows in Beverly Hills.

But it is understood Jose Mourinho is close to getting the signing he has craved for all summer with Pogba heeding back too the club he left four years ago.

United sold him to the Italian champions for just £800,000 in 2012.

But he is set to return on wages of £250,000-a-week after reportedly agreeing personal terms.

Manchester United will target Blaise Matuidi if the Paul Pogba deal falls through, reports the Manchester Evening News.

However, United are confident that they will complete the Pogba deal before the Community Shield and have him in their squad for the new season.

But frustrated manager Jose Mourinho is getting impatient and could soon give a deadline for the negotiations to be completed.

It means United would then turn to their No.2 midfield option in Matuidi, who is expected to be allowed to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Arsenal set price cap for Lacazette

Arsenal will not increase their offer for Alexandre Lacazette above £33.7million (€40million), according to Squawka.

The Gunners have already had a £29million approach for the Lyon front man turned down – but they are expected to come back with a second bid.

But they will refuse to go higher on the price, should their latest transfer attempt be shunted.

They will cap their spending at the same price as what Chelsea paid for Michy Batushuayi, as Arsene Wenger reportedly scouted both men and saw them at a similar level.

Bastian Schweinsteiger has called time on his international career as speculation over his Manchester United future intensifies.

The 31-year-old,whose final game for Joachim Low’s side was the 2-0 defeat to France at Euro 2016, is hanging up his boots after glittering career over 120 caps including the World Cup win in 2014.

Schweinsteiger revealed the news on his social media platforms on Friday morning with a message for Germany fans.

“My thanks go to the fans, the team, the DFB, the coaches and support team around the Germany national team.

“I was able to run out for my country in 120 internationals and experience moments which were indescribably beautiful and successful.

Manchester United gossip round-up

Manchester United will ramp up their interest in Joao Miranda once again, according to the Daily Mail.

The Red Devils could lose Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind this summer and they have earmarked the Brazilian centre-back as a possible replacement.

Miranda is halfway through a two-year loan at Inter Milan from Atletico Madrid and had an impressive first season at the San Siro.

The 31-year-old was watched by United scouts at the end of last season but any move is unlikely to happen unless a space in the squad is left free.

Liverpool gossip round-up

Jurgen Klopp will consider using James Milner as a left-back next season, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Milner, who moved to Liverpool from Manchester City in order to play more regularly in his favoured centre-midfield position, could be used as the emergency fill-in for that position.

Klopp has missed out on left-back targets and is reportedly unconvinced by current first-choice in that position, Alberto Moreno.

It means that the German is looking to explore different options at left-back – and Milner could get a surprise call-up in the defensive role.

Wenger confirms Arsenal are looking for a striker

Arsene Wenger has finally admitted that Arsenal ARE trying to sign a striker this summer.

The Gunners, who have added Granit Xhaka, Tasumo Akano and Rob Holding this summer, have Olivier Giroud as their only experienced forward with fellow front man Danny Welbeck ruled out until the New Year.

And speaking after watching his side beat the MLS All-Stars in San Jose, Wenger revealed he remains interested in adding another attacking player before the deadline next month.

“At the moment I have not too many attacking options in terms of experienced players,” he said.

“But let’s not forget we still have a few players at home.

“There are also a few players who did not play [against the MLS All-Star team], like [Santi] Cazorla and of course [Mesut] Ozil and [Aaron] Ramsey are at home. [Olivier] Giroud is also not here.

“So we have options but we will still look outside to find one more.”

The England centre-back is thought to be valued at more than £50million by the Toffees, but City have yet to strike a deal.

Stones endured a tough summer last year after Chelsea had a series of bids rejected for the former Barnsley defender.

Everton are determined to keep hold of the 22-year-old, despite Pep Guardiola’s desire to add Stones to his revolution at the Etihad.

The German-born Turkey international, who scored 11 goals in all competitions last season and played at this summer’s Euros, has a release clause of £7.5million – but that expires on the final day of this month.

He is refusing to rule out a move away after learning of Spurs’ interest, which we first reported in March.

Malli, 24, said: “I can’t, won’t rule anything out. What’s the point of saying ‘I play for Mainz this season’ and things look different in two weeks?”

Despite not featuring in the Premier League, Chilwell impressed for the Foxes in the FA Cup, League Cup and then on loan at Huddersfield.

Leicester announced on Thursday the England under-21 international had committed long term to the Foxes.

Transfer boost for Arsenal?

Arsenal target Shkodran Mustafi has a release clause of €50million, MirrorFootballcan reveal, but Valencia would sell him for half that as they look to recoup losses from missing out on the Champions League.

Yet despite Valencia being willing to flog the central defender, the Gunners are yet to come back again after enquiring as to the German’s availability.

Mustafi, a World Cup winner, is for sale this summer if any club meets Valencia’s €25million valuation. This is despite managing to squeeze €55million out of Barcelona for midfielder Andre Gomes last week.
